Registering for the VPN Service

VPN client configuration files are contained in a zip file. Configuration files provide the settings required for a native Windows, Mac IKEv2 VPN, or Linux clients to connect to a virtual network over Point-to-Site connections that use native Azure certificate authentication.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Preferences, then click Network. Open Network preferences for me. Select your VPN service in the list at the left. If there’s a Configuration pop-up menu, click it, then choose a configuration. There may be only one configuration available.

You may start to configure L2TP on Mac by manually setting up the connection, by installing a VPN client app, or using a native app from a VPN provider. Manually set up an L2TP VPN connection macOS allows you to create a new VPN connection with L2TP by setting up the built-in VPN module. The setup consists of the following steps.

Configuring an SSL VPN Connection

There are two VPN options available when using the FortiClient VPN application, SSL and IPSec. SSL is the recommended option as it is more reliable and likley to work in all scenarios compared with IPSec which may not work from some networks like those in hotels and cafes. With the FortiClient installed you can configure both options and select the one that works best, we strongly advise testing the configuration before travelling.

Note: Before beginning, you should ensure your operating system is fully up-to-date with all updates and security fixes as well as the latest anti-virus or malware software. Sims three download for macfarmbertyl.

FortiClient VPN requires a minimum version of macOS 10.13 (High Sierra), released in 2017, before it will install.

Installation

Visit the FortiClient download site at www.forticlient.com/downloads and scroll down the page to the 'FortiClient VPN' section then click the 'Download for MacOS' button. Rio vista elementary school canyon country california. Do not download 'FortiClient 6.0' or 'FortiClient 6.4'.
Open the file named FortiClientVPNOnlineInstaller_6.4.dmg (the version number in the name may be higher than this).
Double click downloaded FortiClientVPNOnlineInstaller (and click Open if asked). The FortiClient VPN installer will be downloaded.
When the progress bar is full click Install. If it says 'failed to connect', click Cancel and return to step 2.
Click Continue then Continue then Agree to the licence confirmation.
If asked select Install for all users of this computer then Continue.
Click Install at the bottom right of the window – you might be asked for your macOS password.
You should see Installation complete. Click Close.

Configuration

Open FortiClient from either Applications (within Finder), search in the Spotlight box or click the black shield (in the menu at the top of your screen).
Click Configure VPN in the middle of the FortiClinet VPN screen
For VPN select 'SSL-VPN'
For Connection Name enter, for example, 'VPN-ED-SSL' - Note newer versions many not allow the use of special characters - /:'<>()%@#
For Description enter 'SSL VPN Connection to UoE'
For Remote Gateway :
1. If you are connecting from within China enter 'cn.remote.net.ed.ac.uk'
2. From anywhere else in the world enter 'remote.net.ed.ac.uk'
Tick Customize port and enter 8443
Leave all other values with their default settings:
- Enable Single Sign ON (SSO) for VPN Tunnel = unticked
- Client Certificate = 'None'
- Authentication = 'Prompt on login'
- Do not Warn Invalid Server Certificate = unticked
Click Save to save the configuration

Connection

Launch the FortiClient VPN application if it isn't already running
Select the VPN connection you have just created from the 'VPN Name' field
Enter your username(uun) and VPN password (separate from normal password) and click 'Connect'.

Troubleshooting

If you are having problems connecting once you have setup your new VPN connection then check the troubleshooting and common issues page for some suggestions.

Follow the steps below from an off-campus location to install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software on an Apple computer.

Install VPN Software on Mac

From an off-campus location, download and run the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (VPN) software.
Cisco AnyConnect for Mac OS X 10.15
Cisco AnyConnect for Mac OS X 10.12 - 10.14
Double-click vpn.pkg
Click Continue when the installer launches.
Click Continue to view the license agreement.
Click Agree to accept the license agreement.
Click Install to begin the installation.
Enter the name and password used to log into your computer and click Install Software.
Click Close to finish the installation.

You will only need to complete this software installation process once. To access VPN in the future, see Using the VPN Software below.

Using the VPN Software

To connect to Mercer's network using the VPN software:

Open the Finder and open the list of Applications. Run the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client located in the Cisco folder.
Enter the address vpn.mercer.edu and then click Connect.
Note: Your computer will not be able to connect to the VPN if it is already connected to the MU-Secure wireless network, or if it connected to a wired network jack in a Mercer building.
Select the group that describes your relationship with Mercer, enter the same username and password used to access your email, MyMercer, or CampusNexus, and then click OK.

When your computer is connected to the Mercer network, the Cisco AnyConnect icon will appear in the menu bar at the top of the screen with a padlock on it to indicate a secure connection has been established.

Disconnecting from VPN Software

To disconnect from the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (VPN) software:

Right-click the VPN connection icon in your computer system tray.
Select Disconnect.
